Bicycle District Idea is Gaining More Traction
Today my Los Angeles bicycle district idea was picked up by LAist and Metroblogging LA.

What was once a simple homemade sign posted at the corner of Melrose and Heliotrope (aka HelMo) is now an idea that folks in the cycling community in LA have latched onto.
Let’s keep this momentum going!

Fixpert!
Just participated in the dialogue over on Metroblogging…but I wanted to suggest this here:
Can you make some more Bicycle District Signs and start hanging them up everywhere! I think the idea is great and the more visibility, the better….
Can you make one for the 4SBB? And another for the street that connects 4SBB to Helio/Melrose…(between Beverly and Oakwood)
That would be so awesome!!!

Hi Ingrid!! Absolutely! As soon as I made that first Bicycle District sign, I wanted to make more to line the entire area. I want to do something like “now entering…BICYCLE DISTRICT” to heighten awareness of the area that we’re trying to claim.
That first sign that I made was meant to be weather proof (using corrugated plastic that could withstand what little rain we get here in LA. I want the other signs to be just as durable, but need to find a cheaper and quicker way to make them — and have them still look kinda like real city signage.
Anyway, yes, more signs on the way, I’ll be in touch with you about it. Thanks for the comment!

That little sign is a trooper. I was happy to see it took on the rain from a couple of weeks ago no problem.

I should modify my original comment to Ingrid. I shouldn’t make any promises to make more signs since I’m crazy busy lately. But I will say that I am interested in producing more Bicycle District signs.
