Haiti
Some House-keeping First
WordPress
For those who aren’t reading this via RSS reader, you’ll see that I’m in the middle of installing a new WordPress theme. I’m kind of halfway there, so bear with me as I fiddle. Also, if you haven’t already seen it, how awesome is it that according to the title drawing I did for last week’s post, I apparently think it’s 2001. Ah, fuck it. I’m leaving it. It makes me laugh.
Project 52
I didn’t make it clear last week, but my intention this year is to participate in Project 52. By signing up for P52, I’ve made a public commitment to publish at least one new article per week for all of 2010. P52 is the brainchild of Anton Peck, digital illustrator and from what I can tell, an all-around awesome dude. Big ups to Anton for kicking everyone’s ass into gear for ‘10.
Onto the Post
I bring up Project 52 because, as I’ve stated, I’ve made a commitment to write something here today. This normally wouldn’t be all that difficult, but as I glanced at my list of draft ideas, all of them seemed absurdly flippant given the great tragedy that took place in Haiti on Tuesday.
Believe me, I don’t think I have much to contribute to a larger discussion on Haiti. In fact, I think what would be most appropriate from me is something more like a moment of silence. But instead, I’ll mash these keys for a few minutes.
It is profoundly sad. It’s hard to even comprehend the scale, the loss of life. What remains of the people’s lives there has been utterly shattered, devastated. I’ve heard reports that over 7,000 people have already been buried, and that the death toll is expected to be closer to 100,000 or even as much as 500,000 — just unfathomable loss.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the news, I’d encourage you to catch up on what’s been going on. If you’re able to, please find a way to help with the relief effort.
