What is Nrop Eerf? It’s Pretty Classy That’s What It Is!
Ok, ok, ok. I was doing laundry in my apartment building and I was bored while I was waiting for the first washer to finish filling up before starting the next one — you know, because there’s a sign on the wall that says to wait 3 minutes before starting the second washer or else they’ll overflow.
So, I’m waiting, I’m staring at the sign on the wall and I noticed that I could see through the paper to what was printed on the other side. I’m pretty good at reading things backwards if I do say so myself. When I saw the letters “nrop eerf” bleeding through from the other side of the paper, I got a pain in my gut.
Check it out:
This mystery leaves so many questions unanswered. Was it my landlord that printed this out? You’ll see that I’ve blurred out the Yahoo! user name in the photo. Why would they print that out? Why wouldn’t they be embarrassed about putting that up on the wall?! What kind of dirty bird would do something like that?
You’ll notice this post is also an excuse for me to try out the Lightbox.js script. What do you think? It took about 5 minutes to get it up and running on my site, I highly recommend it!
Also, one more thing, since you all are mostly web devs and designers maybe you can help me. I’ve added float: left to the above thumbnail images, and I can’t remember how to get them all vertically flush, rather than staggering down-ward. Any ideas? My CSS chops are getting rusty with all this IA work I’ve been doing lately. Too much time spent in Visio. Well, any time spent in Visio is too much time spent in Visio, but I digress…

Sally,
Take out the break tags inbetween each image, that might help :-)
that free porn thing was pretty funny - was the yahoo user name something recognizable (like the landlords first initial and last name or similiar)?

Bellisimo! Thanks Jeff! Man I didn’t even view my own source, I feel like such an amateur, haha.
But this does lead me to another question, how do I get Wordpress to stop automatically entering paragraph and break tags when I use a carraige return in the Post editing field? I turned off rich-editing mode so that I can enter html manually myself, but WordPress still insists on “helping me out” with the line breaks.

Oh, and I tried to look up the Yahoo user name but it came back with nothing. The user name wasn’t too obvious right of the bat, just some letters and a year. It is pretty funny, hu?

Wish I could help w/ the Wordpress stuff but I’m a Nucleus user, sorry!
Some fun colors over in your Flick feed!

The line-break thing is one of the settings in Wordpress that I had to edit manually, at least in version 1.5.2 which I’m still using. I forget how to do it :-P But I know you can find it on the Wordpress site, perhaps codex.wordpress.org. There’s a list of “filters” all content goes through, and you just take that filter out of the list. Then Wordpress will stop trying to rewrite your HTML.

Cool, thanks Baron. I’ll check that out. I’ll post what I find in a new post on Fixpert if I find the answer.

I use the TextControl plugin to stop Wordpress from putting in break tags and smart quotes. You can change the default settings and override them locally.

I was hoping this post might have inspired a chance for you to play with “IUY” instead of downloading lightbox ;) You’ll give in sooner or later :)

@Tim - Thanks again Tim, you’re always a huge help!!
@Dustin - Yeah, I just attended Bill Scott’s 2 day AJAX workshop where he showed us a lot of the YUI Library — after I posted this article of course. So, I’m looking forward to using it. After Bill’s session I immediately went to your site (and your Vitamin article) and read as much as I could about YUI. I’m sure I’ll be bugging you with follow up questions once I start digging in, hehe!

Give me an old cool bicycle, and I’ll ride around the city for days.
