More Stringent Comment Approval
Well, sorry everybody, lately I’ve been getting so much obnoxious comment spam, I’ve had to make the standards by which comments are automatically approved a bit more rigorous. In the last month, I’ve been getting a lot of these fake compliment comments, so now if you use certain complimentary phrases your comment will automatically deleted. I won’t even see it for moderation. It’s unlikely that a real user would end up using any of these phrases, but if you’re finding that your comments aren’t getting published within a day, feel free to ping me. Most of you have my email address — haha, make the mistake of posting that on the site for a while and just got tons of useless spam.
The really annoying thing is that these spammers are so unsavvy, they don’t even know about the rel=”nofollow” stuff. They get no benefit from posting here whatsoever, especially since their comments almost never end up live on my site. I’m just trying to cut down on the volume of comments that I have to manually moderate.

Have you tried the Akismet spam filter? It’s really cut down on the amount of low-grade meat that makes it through. It’s working so well right now that I have comment moderation turned off (except for any comment that contains more than 2 links.) Get an API key at wordpress.com and plug it in.

Just wanted to back up Tim on the Akismet plugin - works wonders. Of course - when a blog has the kind of global popularity this one must, I can see how you might still have problems.

Ok, awesome. Thanks guys!!
@Jake - Yes, that’s so true. I mean if all 6 of my readers = global popularity that is, hehe.

I just read my comment again. I didnt mean to sound obnoxious. I meant because i am a new reader you have to add one more to your estimate. Ok, nevermind. First rule of holes. When you are in one, stop digging. Laters!
